![]() This version ties players together with a theme for "humanity." Now it's more about staying more human and less monster rather than adhering to some specific set of arbitrary laws as to what applies at each level of humanity as a sin. Humanity was the default and was assumed, specifically, previously. It's far more versatile than the old Humanity system where everything was a very explicit and codified list of hierarchical sins, then adding paths so that list of sins doesn't even matter anymore because every single character can just choose a different one. It isn't about what my playstyle is, but what kinds of playstyles it caters to. Doesn't matter mechanically- it just matters that you have the Touchstone that exemplifies the Conviction. It might be an honest beat cop, or a pro bono defense attorney, or an underappreciated social worker. Problem is, you can't have that Conviction unless you also have a Touchstone who represents the ideal of "Protect the innocent" to you. ![]() The ST might reduce what could have been 2 Stains to 1 Stain, or if the guy was bragging about getting kids hooked on his product, the ST might say you were entirely justified and you accrue no Stains. You have the "Protect the innocent" conviction. Say you kill a violent drug dealer who was no threat to you in the middle of a rage. If your transgression is in service to a Conviction, the ST might decide to reduce the number of Stains you suffer, or eliminate them entirely. Whenever you rest, you roll a number of d10s equal to the difference between your missing Humanity and your number of Stains (EX: if you have 6 Humanity and 1 Stain, you roll 3d10), and if none of those dice come up as a success, you lose a dot of Humanity. Depending on the severity of your transgression, you can accrue more than one Stain for a single action. You understand how Stains work, right? Every time you make a significant slight against the game's Chronicle Tenants, you accrue Stains.
